Coatings for marine components
Salt finds every weakness in a coating. Marine components deal with constant moisture, chloride attack, UV and abrasion, often while being difficult to access for maintenance once they are in service.
We coat marine components from our Dandenong South facility, as a PPG approved applicator for protective and marine products.
Fighting salt corrosion
For steel in coastal and marine conditions, inorganic zinc silicate gives galvanic protection that outperforms hot-dip galvanising. It is known in the fastener trade as Esso Spec.
Our protective coatings cover the epoxy, polyurethane and polysiloxane systems that go over the top, and our corrosion protection service adds inspection, testing and reporting.
Hardware, fasteners and heat
Marine fasteners seize and gall like any other, with salt making it worse. Fastener class coating handles bolts, studs and threaded hardware in-house.
Xylar 2 is an inorganic ceramic-metallic coating built for marine and aerospace use, heat resistant to 650C and a sound primer under a fluoropolymer topcoat on threaded components.
Preparation and testing
Nothing survives salt if the preparation was rushed. Abrasive blasting takes the surface back to clean metal with the right profile.
We measure coating thickness, surface profile and soluble salt contamination in-house, with holiday detection to find discontinuities before the component leaves. All under an ISO 9001 accredited quality system.
