Surface coatings for aerospace components

Aerospace work leaves very little room for a coating that is close enough. Components are made to tight tolerances, they run hot or cold, and they are often threaded, which means the finish has to protect the part without changing how it fits or how it moves.

We coat aerospace components from our Dandenong South facility, working to the specification you supply.

Preparation and pre-treatment

Different substrates need different media, so our blasting rooms run garnet, glass bead and aluminium oxide rather than one option for everything. Abrasive blasting takes the surface back to clean metal and leaves the profile the coating needs.

Where extra corrosion resistance is called for underneath the finish, a zinc phosphate conversion adds another layer of protection.

Threaded and moving components

Fasteners and moving parts are where aerospace coatings earn their keep. Our fastener class coating line handles bolts, studs and threaded hardware through phosphate, blast, spray, dip spin and oven facilities in-house.

Dry-film lubricants add low friction to the same components. Ever-Slik covers corrosion, chemical and abrasion resistance, and Xylar 2 is an inorganic ceramic-metallic coating that holds up to 650C, which makes it a sound primer under a fluoropolymer topcoat.

Testing and documentation

Coating thickness, surface profile, gloss and salt contamination are all measured in-house, with third party inspection and reporting available where the specification calls for it. Everything runs under an ISO 9001 accredited quality management system.
